Depending on the area that the practitioner examines, endoscopy is given a specific term. Each type also uses different endoscopes, which take their name from the procedure. Several general categories:

  1. Upper endoscopy: In the upper small intestine, the stomach and esophagus are examined with the help of the upper endoscope. The time required for this is between 20 and 30 minutes. Anyone who passes this test should refrain from drinking and eating for at least 6–8 hours before.
  2. Bronchoscopy: When an assessment of large airways, also known as bronchi, is found in the lungs, it is done with a bronchoscope. The entire procedure can be completed in 30 minutes. There are restrictions related to food and drink that must be observed, as well as some precautions associated with the teeth and mouth.
  3. Sigmoidoscopu and colonoscopy: When different digestive pathways differ, they are examined with a sigmoidoscope and a colonoscope. While sigmoidoscopy can take as little as 10-15 minutes, a colonoscopy can last from 30 to 45 minutes. The patient is given an enema with a sigmoidoscopy task, i.e. examination of the rectum and lower part of the colon. But colonoscopy requires only complete cleaning of the shells using dietary modifications and laxatives.

In addition to the four types of endoscopy described above, there are others. They are used to see and explore the abdomen and joints. They are carried out by creating a small cut through which the camera can enter. Each type of procedure has its own level of pain and discomfort. In general, with the exception of sigmoidoscopy, all other methods require sedation. Sigmoidoscopy can only be performed safely with anesthetics.
