Will you be able to take your Mobile Phone to the Olympics?
Posted by admin in Cell Phone on March 30, 2011
If you are one of the many who are attempting to purchase tickets for the 2012 London Olympics, then you should take a close look at the terms and conditions. Although it remains far from certain, there is a strong possibility that you will not be able to take along your mobile phone.
It is not just your iPhone 4 and other smartphones that face a ban. It seems that the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) will allow little more than the clothes we stand up in. We can understand why they might wish to ban alcoholic drinks, but they intend to also ban all non-alcoholic beverages and food.
Any other liquid such as sunscreens will not be allowed if they are in containers of greater than 100ml capacity (where do you get 100 ml containers of sun block?). Other items in the forbidden list are all musical instruments, whistles, horns, drums and rattles, thermos flasks (presumably even if smaller than 100ml) or anything else that might be considered to be disruptive.
This is somewhat of a shock to the plans to make the 2012 Olympics an event in which the mobile phone is a key element. The BBC has made detailed plans to broadcast information and live coverage of events directly to mobile phones, and networks are cooperating to install additional facilities that will prevent over-worked mobile phone networks from crashing.
Of course we see that it is important to guarantee the security of spectators, athletes and organisers, but the mobile phone is now such a major part of everyday life, that many people will feel banning it is just one step too far.
The latest message from the LOCOG is that it is too soon to worry as they have not yet come to any firm decision and there remains the possibility that mobile phones will escape the ban; however if the temperatures soar, then the ban on taking non-alcoholic drinks along (which no doubt includes water) means that, unless we are willing to pay inflated prices for 99 ml shots of liquid, we could all face dehydration too. A judgment by Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, features resulted in broadband providers being allowed to deliver enhanced speeds with their expert services. Based on the latest reports, all mobile broadband providers throughout the uk will quickly be capable of build-up the rates of speed that they have already included in their services.

The actual 2G services supplied sms as well as voice services but now mobile network operators will have less of a restriction on the level of range to offer 3G data services. Samsung Galaxy Series
Posted by admin in Cell Phone on February 2, 2011
The Samsung Galaxy series has undoubtedly been one of the major success stories of the last year in the mobile phone market. The range’s main handset, the Galaxy S, has proved unbelievably popular, challenging phones such as the iPhone 4 and the HTC Desire for the title of the number one smartphone. Now, however, the range’s manufacturers, Samsung, have decided that the range should be expanded at the lower end of the market with the announcement of several new phones that, although do not have the same power as the Samsung Galaxy S, should prove good value and extremely usable phones.
The first of these new handsets and probably the most accomplished in terms of specifications is the Samsung Galaxy Ace. The Ace has a 3.5″ 320 x 480 pixel display, an 800 MHz processor with 158Mb of RAM and Android 2.2, all very good for a low range phone. It also comes complete with a decent 5 megapixel camera, the same pixel rate as you get on the Galaxy S. Should be available in the UK sometime this year so watch out for it.
Another phone that has been announced by the Korean company is the Galaxy Mini, keeping up with the trend of companies releasing scaled down versions of their signature phones. This is very basic, with a 600mhz processor and a 3mp camera but looks great and if you aren’t wanting to spend a great deal this could be for you.
Somewhere between the Mini and the Ace in terms of specifications is the Galaxy Fit, it has similar specs to the Ace but with a slightly slower processor and slightly less Ram, the camera is the same though and although it does not look as attractive as the other two phones, it is by no means ugly.
Finally there is the Gio, possibly the best looking of the phones. It is again similar to the Ace but the camera is 3megapixels instead of 5. It will be cheaper than the Ace though so if a camera isn’t high on the agenda the Gio could be the phone you are after.
